South Point student accommodation: your questions answered
South Point is one of the larger private student accommodation operators in South Africa, and like most operators its actual policies - what's included, how refunds work, what visitors are allowed - live in an FAQ that's easy to skim past. We've gone through South Point's published FAQ (staysouthpoint.co.za/faq) and summarised the answers in our own words below, so you know what to expect before you apply. This guide paraphrases South Point's published FAQ as of the time of writing in 2026; policies, fees and NSFAS-accredited institution lists change, so confirm current details on staysouthpoint.co.za or directly with South Point before you apply.
Room types and booking
South Point offers three main room types: single rooms (your own private space), double sharing rooms (sharing with one roommate), and cluster units (a shared apartment-style setup with private rooms and a shared common area). You can reserve a room directly on South Point's website or via their WhatsApp line, and it helps to have a working email address and mobile number ready before you start the process. If you want a specific roommate or floor, South Point says you can request it, subject to space being available.

- Double sharing rooms
- Cluster units (shared apartment-style, private rooms)
Deposits, payments and NSFAS
Deposit and payment requirements vary by building and room type, and the specifics are shown during checkout rather than being a single fixed figure - so budget for this to differ between South Point properties. South Point confirms NSFAS accreditation at a number of institutions, including Wits, UJ, TUT, UP, CPUT, DUT, UKZN, NMU, TNC, CJC and SWGC - if your institution isn't on that list, check directly with South Point and your financial aid office before assuming a specific building qualifies.
What's furnished, and what to bring
Rooms come with a bed and mattress, a study table and chair, a fridge, a clothing locker and a food shelf, with shared common areas providing a stove, microwave and hot water (hydro boil) access. South Point does not allow external furniture or personal appliances beyond what's provided, for safety and compliance reasons - so don't plan on bringing your own bar fridge, heater, or furniture.

- Study table + chair
- Fridge
- Clothing locker
- Food shelf
- Shared stove, microwave and hydro boil (common areas)
Visitors, sleepovers and refunds
Visitors are allowed daily between 09:00 and 23:00. Sleepovers cost R135 a night, payable either at South Point's Central Offices or by depositing into your lease account. If you need a refund - for example a cancelled booking - South Point asks you to email [email protected] with a copy of your ID, proof of payment, and your banking details.
Each South Point building has a Student Liaison Manager (SLM) you can go to for personal issues or roommate conflicts, and South Point's offices are open Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00 and Saturday 08:00-14:00 (closed Sundays).
